The Kingdom of Ninnegal
|
Description: |
Ninnegal is a well-organized, thriving kingdom with strong traditions,
shrewd and dedicated rulers, and with a vibrant and optimistic
population. Ninnegal feels a little bit like legendary Arthurian
Britain with a dash of the Rohirim and the Gondorians of Middle Earth
thrown in. Ninnegal's coastal location has contributed to making it
fertile and productive agriculturally. Strong communities and a well
educated and trained yeomanry have helped the kingdom to prosper and
the cities of Ninnegal are clean, well developed and maintained, safe
to visit, and see high volumes of trade and commerce. Ninnegal's upper
and middle classes are considered civilized and knowledgeable, only
perhaps surpassed by those of Searath and Alvarane (and Belfegro, in
the Belfegran opinion). |
|
Location(s): |
Western coast of the Eastern Continent, occupying a large tract of land
averaging about 120-150 miles wide East-West and stretching over 1000
miles North-South. Ninnegal's populated areas extend into the main
mountain chains that border it on the East and South-East. |
|
Races: |
Predominantly Human. In the hills and mountains nearby, their are
Dwarves, Goblins, Orcs, Gnomes and some Halflings. In the forests,
their are Elves and Halflings. In the Swamps, their are Goblins and
Lizardfolk. The plains, the rolling grasslands (gentle moors) and the
cities are almost exclusively Human domains, except for the occasional
passing nomadic tribe. |
|
Inspiration: |
A mix of Gondor and Rohan, or maybe England with Yeomen, Militia, and Knights. |
|
Naming: |
Names would follow Medieval English sort of scheme. |
|
Prevalent Class(es): |
Cleric, Fighter, Ranger (or Scout), Healer, Wizard, Paladin, Knight, Rogue or Bard |
|
Prevalent Faith(s): |
TBD. Home to several militant clerical orders such as the Hospitalers or the Templars. One example is the Order of the Radiant Blade, a good aligned militant order of knights and militant clergy. |
|
Attitudes: |
Generally, a Ninnegalian tends to be forthright, honest, somewhat
courageous, steadfast, and considered. They are a tolerant people but
value and appreciate the merits of their own way of doing things, being
fairly happy with their monarchy and its successes. They can be quite
lively and passionate at times, but tend to be peacable if left to
their own devices and are usually quite willing to help those in need
or defend those under threat where possible. Their knights tend to be
exceptionally courageous and willing to do battle with those who would
threaten the weak, the innocent, or the people they are sworn to
protect. The Yeomanry are a bit more pragmatic in their outlook,
letting their deeds speak for them, but they too tend to be
compassionate and unafraid to take on a battle if the cause is worthy.
The rulers of Ninnegal have traditionally had a very powerful awareness
of the reciprocal nature of "noblese oblige", known as "The Crown's
Oath" in Ninnegal. |
|
Wealth: |
Comfortably well off to quite prosperous. The emphasis on productive
agriculture or trade guilds and a strong and vibrant people has helped
make for an economically strong kingdom. Their focus on internal and
external trade has also served to swell the coffers of the kingdom and
its inhabitants. The main reason they are not very wealthy is that they
spend a fair bit developing their country and investing in its future
as well as in combating threats to Ninnegal and to its neighbouring
friends. |
|
Military Power: |
Ninnegal is militarily powerful. They have a sizable body of knights,
mostly medium cavalry, who are well trained and many of whom are
experienced. These knights are often backed up by members of the
militant clerical orders as well. The main body of Ninnegalian military
power is their superb Yeomanry. These land-owning soldiers have a stake
in the future of Ninnegal and they are an educated, well-trained
military force, including excellent archers, spearmen, and skirmishing
forces. In extremis, Ninnegal can also levy large numbers of peasant
levies (although their training and equipage is rather variable) and
they can also call upon many friendly powers (Gnomes, Dwarves, and
Halflings among them) to provide additional assistance in return for
past or future assistance from Ninnegal. |
|
Other Notes: |
Ninnegal covers a large distance and has many hostile forces along its
long mountainous borders. The country Ninnegal claims or protects is
effectively split into four sections: The first is in the North near
the larger forested region and the larger swamp - smaller population
and a variety of nearby other races makes this a more exciting region
of the country. The second region is the Central area where the capital
is located and it is the most peaceful and sees a sizable amount of the
kingdom's internal and external trade. The third region is the South,
which is also fairly stable, though slightly less densely populated
than the central area. Lastly, to the South-East, there are some large
mountain valleys that contain a variety of people's whom Ninnegal and
her allies try to protect. Ninnegal has sizable amounts of sea trade
with other continents and islands, but has a very limited navy due to
the limited amount of large timber available for construction. Ninnegal
has actually made expeditions to various islands around the Eastern
Continent that have strong timber bases to attempt to acquire more good
lumber for shipbuilding purposes. The limited navy is augmented by
members of the militant orders. Ninnegal, generally does not seem fond
of Mages or Sorcerers, mistrusting their secrecy and the suspecting the
source of their power. |
